Caudwell Children, the Staffordshire based national charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families, has announced that registration is now open for their annual, Yuletide, ‘Elf Run’.

The non-competitive 5km family event will take place on the Trentham Garden Estate, Stone Road, Trentham, ST4 8AX, on Sunday 10th December, at 11:00am, and the charity is calling on families to join them, in festive fancy dress, on the Christmas themed fun run.

Sam Walker, Senior Events Coordinator for Caudwell Children, says the ‘Elf Run’ is suitable for the whole family. As she explained: “The ‘Elf Run’ has been designed to be family friendly and the route is fully accessible for buggies and wheelchairs. You can run, jog, skip or simply walk around the course, and because many people dress in Elf costumes, or other Christmas outfits, there’s a fantastic, fun-filled atmosphere around the event.”

All participants will be given a FREE elf hat before the start of the race and as they cross the finishing line they will be presented with a unique ‘Elf Run’ medal.

Sam says that the event is perfectly suited for families with disabled children. She said: “Research shows that 78% of disabled children have no access to activities outside their home, whilst 75% of families say that their isolation has caused anxiety and depression.

“So this fully inclusive fundraising event is a great opportunity for disabled children to get out of the house and enjoy themselves. It will help to build their confidence and self-esteem and it will also give parents the opportunity to develop friendships and form lasting social networks.”

Sam was delighted that last year’s event attracted families from across Staffordshire. “It was a fantastic mix of people and we had members of the general public from across the county and beyond,” she explained: “They participated alongside beneficiaries of the charity and there was a lot of laughing, posing and selfie taking. Many people told me it really kick-started the festive season for them.

“Once again there will be prizes for the best fancy dress so I would urge people to be creative in their Christmas costume making.”

Entry to the ‘Elf Run’ costs £15 per adult, which includes one free child’s place and entry into the Italian Gardens. Each additional child is £6.

Spectators will receive a 50% discount into the Trentham Garden Estate if they state, at the main entrance to the gardens, that they would like to watch the fun run.

Participants are encouraged to raise sponsorship for the charity and Sam concluded: “It’s a great day out for the family and a fantastic way to keep fit, have fun and raise vital funds for Caudwell Children, which will allow us to support even more disabled children throughout the region.”
