Oliver – Cerebral Palsy

Three-year-old Oliver has cerebral palsy. Thanks to his specialist tricycle, he now has the confidence to play outside with his friends.

Oliver is a bright and active boy, mum, Abby says his disability makes him unable to stand or walk without support. As she explained: “Oliver’s condition affects his posture, movement and mobility. He is weaker than other children his age and he has low muscle tone and control. As a result he is unable to ride a standard bicycle, something that he desperately wanted to do. As his mum it’s been heart-breaking to see Oliver watching his friends enjoying themselves on their bikes when he’s been unable to join in.”

Oliver has finally been given the chance of playing outside with his friends.

Abby says that the tricycle hasn’t just helped Oliver, it’s had a positive impact on the whole family. She said: “The trike has made Oliver so happy, he absolutely loves it. It’s bright red, his favourite colour, and he enjoys being taken up to Cannock Chase where he can cycle, with his friends, on the tarmac bike tracks there.

It’s given him so much more confidence. Other children, teenagers and adults are all interested in the trike because it looks so sporty and they ask him about it, which means he’s talking to lots of new people. You can’t imagine how happy this has made me feel. I can’t thank Caudwell Children enough for making this happen.”
