Core Services
In 2012 we officially launched our seven Core Services; devised after a decade of learning about the needs of families with disabled children and designed to fill the gap left by statutory services and other charities.
Driven from the Chief Executive and the Board of Trustees, we remain passionate about making a real difference to the lives of individual disabled children.
The Caudwell Children 'Core Services':
We provide: Wheelchairs, Therapy Tricycles, Specialist Car Seats, Buggies, Sensory Equipment
On average a family with a disabled child needs 5 pieces of specialist equipment to provide the basic level of care.
We don't believe in waiting lists for children. Early provision of equipment can prevent the development of associated health problems, stimulate movement and provide essential physiotherapy.
We provide mobility and sensory equipment for disabled children to enable them to live fulfilled and happy lives. By the end of 2011 Caudwell Children had provided over £4,655,000 of specialist mobility equipment and helped improve the lives of over 1,350 children.
"Growing up my favourite story has always been 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar.' When I got my powered wheelchair I felt like I had gone from being a caterpillar to as free as a Butterfly!"
(Tilly, Caudwell Children beneficiary)

Treatment/Surgery not available in the UK; Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, Proton Therapy, Cancer Treatment
Almost 300 children die from cancer each year in th UK.
Many families are unable to access vital treatment that can save or change their child's life, and when trying to cope with the trauma of their child's illness, families face emotional, physical and financial turmoil.
We fundraise to cover hospital expenses for life-changing and life-saving treatments and provide post-operative therapy and practical family support.
"Leo used to drag himself around on his knees, he was desperate to run in the playground like his friends. We were preparing for a lifetime of operations, but since having treatment he has been making steady progress and is up on his feet walking and starting to run around. The future for Leo looks completely different now."

Conductive Education, Therapy at Advance, Therapy at the Cerebral Palsy Physiotherapy Centre
Every 30 minutes a child will acquire a brain injury.
2,000 babies are diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy every year.
Children with brain injury have difficulty controlling muscles and movement as they grow and develop. They can also suffer with associated problems relating to their vision, hearing, learning and behaviour.
How we help:
- Individual Therapy Programmes
- Development & rehabilitation programmes
- Parent/Carer training
The therapy programmes we provide help children to reach their individual potential by increasing their mobility and independence.
"The difference in our son is unbelievable, he now sleeps better, eats better, is more alert and sits independently! The list goes on! Without therapy he definitely wouldn't have progressed and developed as much as he has."
(Ben's mother)

ABA Therapy, Auditory Integration Training, Therapy at Advance, Dietary & Nutritional Intervention
Autism is the most prevalent disability in the UK.
The challenge of Autism is that it can remain invisible to the rest of the world. Children with Autism often struggle to make sense of the world around them leaving them feeling isolated, frustrated and wondering why they are different.
A.C.T aims to unlock the lives of children living with Autism by helping to increase their communication, independence and social interaction, relieving stress within the family unit and providing improved opportunities for each child.
"The quality of Oscar's life, and indeed ours has improved beyond anything we had imagined. Through the programme Oscar has learned to communicate, respond to his name, and even sing and dance! Oscar's secret world has burst open and we now see a different child."
(Oscar's mother)

In-home Practical and Emotional Support, Hospital Support Teams, Crisis Intervention
At Caudwell Children we recognise that disabled children and those with complex health needs must have access to the health care, adaptations and equipment they require.
We know that many families have to struggle through a maze of services to track down essential information, and then jump through hoops to receive support. We also understand that whether or not a family receives support could be based on where they live.
Our Family Services offer vital support to families caring for a disabled child or young person. The service can provide telephone, email and face to face support to help families to make informed choices and gain access to equipment, treatment, therapies and local services they need.
As part of our Family Support Services we also provide Short Break Activities to enable disabled children to access fun, inspirational and accredited leisure activities. These activities not only build confidence and independence for each child but also enable parents and carers to have short break respite.
"When our son came out of hospital he had become very dependent on us and his confidence was at a low ebb. Since Caudwell Children provided us with a Family Support Officer and access to Short Breaks, Billy has started to build confidence and learned how to make new friends. He's joining in with life and is now back at school, doing really well!"
(Billy's mother)

Fully-supported group holidays for children fighting life-threatening illnesses and their families
Every week 104 children die from a childhood illness.
When a family faces losing a child due to a terminal illness, there is very little that anyone can do to ease their pain and give them hope for the future.
Our Destination Dreams trip gives children and their families the chance to experience a fully- supported holiday of a lifetime together, where they can create precious memories to be cherished forever.
"For us it felt as though we have lived in a perfect bubble for a week where we were the norm and not the exception"
(Amy's mother)
