Caudwell Children · Our History

The Caudwell Group of Companies was committed to raising vitally needed funds for children in desperate need from the mid 1990s. However, with a desire to make a difference to children's lives through direct donations, and frustrated at the amount of hard raised funds that are often spent in administration and management, John Caudwell, conceived the idea of The Caudwell Charity, now Caudwell Children.

Caudwell Children was registered in March 2000 to make direct donations to sick and disabled children, originally in the Staffordshire area.

In 2004 the Charity went nationwide, resulting in a dramatic increase in the number of applications, which now arrive from all parts of the country from as far afield as Aberdeen, Belfast and Southampton, allowing us to help more and more disabled children.

In 2006 The Caudwell Group was sold, enabling John Caudwell to dedicate more time to his family and his charity work.  By donating the cost of the Charity’s annual management and administration overheads, John has guaranteed an efficient way for individuals and businesses to change the lives of thousands of sick and disabled children living in the UK.  John Caudwell remains the Charity’s largest benefactor and sits as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

To date the lives of thousands of disabled children across the UK have been transformed by direct donations of treatment, equipments and therapy, as well the annual Destination Dreams trip to Florida for children with life limiting illnesses.

The growth of Caudwell Children has also seen the development of parents advice groups, teams of volunteers, research into the needs of the local community, external fundraising and corporate partnerships in addition to the continued and valuable support from the Caudwell Group's former employees and the business community.

Only with this continued support from everyone, will the Charity be able to achieve its aims and contribute substantially to the welfare of special children throughout the country.

Recognising the vital contribution of Caudwell Children’s work, an independent report has acknowledged that Caudwell Children is the second largest voluntary provider of specialist medical equipment in the UK.

Moving forward the Charity is passionate about making real and sustainable change for children with a medical condition or disability.
