Taxi firm helping locals to keep ‘Elfy’ this Christmas
The Stoke-on-Trent taxi firm Intercity Private Hire, is helping the local community keep fit this Christmas by sponsoring the city’s annual Elf Run at Trentham Garden Estate, Stone Road, Trentham, ST4 8AX,
The Elf Run is organised by Caudwell Children, the Staffordshire based charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families.
The family friendly event, which takes place at 11:00am on Sunday 10th December, 2017, sees participants running, jogging, skipping or simply walking around a 5km course dressed in Elf costumes or other seasonal outfits!
Bosses at the charity say that Intercity’s sponsorship of the event, together with an unprecedented number of donations from the business community, has guaranteed that this years ‘Elf Run’, will be bigger and better than ever before.
Malcolm Beardsmore, Director at Intercity private Hire, is delighted to be sponsoring the event. As he explained: “This is the fourth year that the Elf Run has taken place in the city and it’s a fantastic event that raises vital funds for disabled children across Staffordshire.
“Obviously there is a real cost in staging the event as entertainment, certificates and medals have to be paid for. Our sponsorship ensures that as much money as possible, from registration and fundraising, goes to the children that the charity supports.”
Liz Wade, Events and Challenges Assistant at Caudwell Children, is delighted by the support that the event has received from the Hanley based taxi company. She said: “This non-competitive run has really captured the imagination of the community and it’s great news that Intercity are helping us to maximise the amount that we raise by covering the cost of putting on the run.”
Prizes will be awarded on the day for the best dressed girl, boy and family and Liz says that there are some great Christmas gifts up for grabs for the lucky winners. As she explained: “In previous years runners have really excelled themselves with their fancy dress and we expect the same again this year.
“We’ll have loads of goodies to give away to our best dressed runners so I would advise participants to get to work on their costumes as soon as possible.”
Liz says that the event is perfectly suited for families with disabled children and gives them the opportunity to escape the confines of their own home. As she concluded: “Research shows that 78% of disabled children have no access to activities outside the home, whilst 75% of families feel so isolated that it has caused anxiety and depression.
“So we’ve created a fully accessible course for wheelchairs, buggies and prams, to give families with disabled children the opportunity to get out and have some seasonal fun with likeminded people.
“We can’t thank Intercity private Hire enough for supporting us and helping us to make the Elf Run THE Christmas family fun run!”
Places are still available for the ‘Elf Run’ at £15 per adult, which includes one free child’s place and entry into the Italian Gardens. Each additional child is £6. Spectators also receive a 50% discount to the Trentham Garden Estate.
