Volunteers needed for charity Trick or Treat family 5K walk

Caudwell Children, is on the lookout for ghoulish volunteers for their Halloween Trick or Treat Family Fun 5K walk.

The event will take place at Loomer Road Stadium, in Chesteron, Newcastle Under Lyme, on Tuesday 31st October, 2017, from 6:00pm. The stadium is home to the National League Speedway team Stoke Potters.

As dusk turns to darkness participants will make their way around a 5K course which winds its way around the stadium.

But to help manage the event the charity is now appealing for volunteers to come forward and offer their services.

Steffi Brown, Volunteer Coordinator at Caudwell Children, says that there are plenty of roles to fill. As she explained: “We urgently need individuals and families to get involved. You could be a marshal directing participants safely around the course, you could help us set up the event by putting up signage and banners or you could help deliver bottled water to the finishing line.”

Steffi says that volunteers will be vital in creating a great atmosphere around the event. She said: “They’ll help to cheer on participants whether they’re running, jogging or walking around the course. And if people are struggling they will be able to offer up encouragement to get them to the finishing line.”

And for younger volunteers rather than going from door to door eating sweets, there will be the opportunity to hand them out to those taking part in the run.

“It’s good to give rather than just take,” explained Steffi. “So we’ll be handing out some tasty goodies around the course.

“Not only that but at the end of the run participants will be faced with two finish lines giving them the choice of choosing either trick or treat. This will give our volunteers the perfect opportunity to strike fear into those who enjoy being frightened.”

Steffi says that she would love volunteers to get into the spirit of the event by attending in fancy dress. However, she stresses that this it isn’t essential. As she concluded: “We’ve asked participants to dress up and we hope to see crowds of little monsters, vampires, ghosts and ghouls descending on our frightening course.

“And if runners are brave enough they can chose to run through an additional section of the course where they will face a collection of ghastly volunteers in fancy dress.”

Volunteers will also distribute head torches to participants to ensure that they have a frightening but safe experience.

Ideally they are required from 4:00pm-9:00pm but they can volunteer at times between these hours.

Volunteers will also be briefed on the day of the event, have the full support of Caudwell Children’s Events and Volunteer departments, receive a high visibility jacket and be issued with a head torch.
