Charity fundraisers needed for Inca Trail Trek
Caudwell Children is urging people to register on a once-in-a-lifetime fundraising trek through Peru.
The challenge, which takes place between 15th and 24th November, 2019, will see participants spending five days trekking 52km, through difficult terrain, before completing the Inca Trail Trek at the iconic Incan citadel Machu Picchu.
Set on a mountain ridge, 2,430 metres above sea level, the city is the most famous Inca construction.
Built in 1450, only to be abandoned a century later at the time of the Spanish conquest of Peru, Machu Picchu is a fitting climax to the ten day trip.
“This is a fantastic challenge that begins in the Inca capital of Cusco, a fascinating city full of colonial charm that’s hidden deep in the Andes Mountains,” explained Sarah Freeth, challenge and events manager at Caudwell Children. “At an altitude of 3,300 metres participants will enjoy a day acclimatising by taking a trek around the famous Inca sites that surround the city.”
The Inca Trail Trek takes in three high mountain passes, the highest being 4,200 metres, and during the tough challenge Sarah says participants will build lasting friendships. She said: “You’ll get exceptional support from the porters, guides and medics, but there is also a great sense of camaraderie amongst those who take part.
“The Inca Trail Trek is perfect for those who enjoy a challenge and want to experience lush vegetation, stunning scenery and one of the wonders of the world.
“There are a number of obstacles along the way, not least the climbing, and although you’ll be camping during the trek the chefs will ensure that you’re fed well enough to complete the challenge.
“Those who take part in this kind of challenge often make friendships that last a lifetime.”
Sarah says the breath-taking views and the spectacularly rewarding route makes this a particularly enjoyable challenge. As she concluded: “The sense of achievement, as you make your way through the Sun Gate to see Machu Picchu stretching out before you, will be completely overwhelming.
“You’ll also have a great deal of pride in knowing that you’ve raised vital funds that will allow Caudwell Children to continue providing specialist equipment, treatment and therapies to disabled children.
“It simply doesn’t get any better than that!”
