Take on Ben Nevis with either a guided day walk or join an all-inclusive weekend package. Whichever you choose, qualified mountain leaders will be with you every step of the way as you triumph over the UK's highest summit!
Towering above the town of Fort William deep in the Highlands of Scotland, Ben Nevis is an incredible mountain and the goal of many hill-walkers. Standing at 1,345m high, it's a full day out to walk to the summit and back, and what better way to do it than with a supporting group and experienced leader?
The total walk is just under 11 miles, with around 1,350 metres of ascent and descent. We usually find it takes groups between 7-9 hours to complete the return journey.
Starting at the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre, the group will assemble at the entrance to the centre itself. You will begin by crossing the River Nevis, and quickly start the uphill journey, gradually making your way up the rocky but clear trail that skirts the slopes of Meall an t-Suidhe. Views ahead will be of spectacular wooded Glen Nevis, and before long you will be half-way, marked by the famous 'half-way lochan' of Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe.
Beyond this point, the trail begins to zig-zag upwards, leaving much of the vegetation behind as we rise ip to the summit plateau. Despite being rocky, the path is clear for most of the way up and relatively easy walking.
Views from the summit are simply breath-taking. You'll see over the islands of the Hebrides and the ocean and all around tare peaks as far as the eye can see. What's more, you can gaze down the 700 metre North Face, one of the highest cliffs in the UK. The summit area was once the home of Britain's highest building, a weather observatory that was built and manned by the Victorians - you can still see the ruins to this day.
