Caudwell Children has thanked a West Midlands based healthcare company for helping to make the dreams of 25 disabled children come true.

Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare, a leading manufacturer and distributor of durable medical products, based in Tipton, has donated a suction machine to the charity for its annual Destination Dreams holiday to Disney World, in Florida.

The charity created Destination Dreams in 2007 to give 25 children with life threatening conditions the opportunity to have a ’dream’ holiday.

A number of the children selected for the holiday have respiratory issues, as a result of their condition, so the healthcare company, which has offices in the United States, Canada, Germany, Spain, France and Australia, donated the equipment to ensure the charity had the medical equipment that it needed for the trip in December 2018.

“Unfortunately, the charity doesn’t own the amount of equipment needed for the trip,” said Lisa Bates, Associate Director of Core Services at Caudwell Children. “The equipment that we take with us is extremely expensive but luckily we have a number of key partners who support us with oxygen concentrators, suction machines and other vitally important pieces of kit that enable us to give the children who go on the holiday the very best care.”

The suction machines that are supplied to Caudwell Children need to be compact and lightweight without compromising suction performance.

“They are extremely important as they are used to clear airways and help control infection,” said Lisa.

Destination Dreams is unique in that the children on the trip are supported by a dedicated team of medical professionals, including paediatric doctors and nurses. This means that families who could never travel alone are given the chance to experience a family holiday and create precious happy memories.

While in Florida the 150 strong group of children, family members, medics and volunteers will visit; Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Universal Studios and Seaworld, while staying at a special resort designed exclusively for children with complex medical needs.

“We can’t express just how grateful we are to the team at Drive DeVilniss Healthcare enough,” concluded Lisa. “The support of our partner healthcare companies saves the charity thousands of pounds, and gives us the green light to create magical memories for the children and their families; memories that are totally priceless.”
