Caudwell Children, the Staffordshire based charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families, has announced that they are offering a 30% Pay Day Discount to those who register on their annual ‘Elf Run’ between 9.00am on Friday 30th November and 9.00pm on Monday 3rd December, 2018.

The non-competitive 5km family fun run will take place at 11.00am on Sunday 16th December, 2018, and will set off from the charity’s new state-of- the-art HQ, the Caudwell International Children’s Centre, Innovation Way, Keele Science & Innovation Park, Newcastle-under-Lyme, ST5 5NT.

Bosses at the charity are now calling on families to register now and join them, in festive fancy dress, on the Christmas themed charity fun run.

With entry to the Elf Run priced at £15 per adult, which includes one FREE child’s place, the Pay Day Discount will bring the cost of registration down to £10.50

Sarah Freeth, challenge and events manager at Caudwell Children, is excited about the move. As she explained: “We’re making it as easy as possible for people to join us on our festive run as we know how expensive things can be at this time of year.

“With Christmas nearly upon us we thought it would be fantastic to give an early Christmas present to those who want to support our ‘Elf Run’ by offering them a £4.50 discount off our entry price.

“Not only that we’re also offering the same deal to those who want to register an additional child.

“The usual price would be £6 per child, but with our 30% discount any extra children that register for the run will cost just £4.20.”

Last years ‘Elf Run’ had to be cancelled at the last minute due to the heavy snowfall that fell across Staffordshire.

“But now it’s back and we’re delighted to have designed a news course which starts outside our wonderful new building,” explained Sarah. “The run then weaves its way through the Keele University Campus, before finishing in the spectacular countryside surrounding our new home.”

Sarah, says the ‘Elf Run’ is suitable for the whole family. She said: “The ‘Elf Run’ has been designed to be family friendly and the route is fully accessible for buggies and wheelchairs.

“You can run, jog, skip or simply walk around the course, and because many people dress in Elf costumes, or other Christmas outfits, there’s a fantastic, fun-filled, atmosphere around the event.”

All participants will be given a FREE elf hat before the start of the race and as they cross the finishing line they will be presented with a unique ‘Elf Run’ medal.

Sarah says that the event is perfectly suited for families with disabled children. “Research shows that 78% of disabled children have no access to activities outside their home, whilst 75% of families say that their isolation has caused anxiety and depression,” she explained. “So this fully inclusive fundraising event is a great opportunity for disabled children to get out of the house and enjoy themselves.

“It will help to build their confidence and self-esteem and it will also give parents the opportunity to develop friendships and form lasting social networks.”

Sarah says that previous events have attracted families from across Staffordshire. “It’s a fantastic mix of people and we’ve had members of the general public from across the county and beyond,” she enthused: “They participated alongside beneficiaries of the charity and there was a lot of laughing, posing and selfie taking and many people tell me that the ‘Elf Run’ really kick-starts the festive season for them.

“Once again there will be prizes for the best fancy dress so I would urge people to be creative in their Christmas costume making.”

Participants are encouraged to raise sponsorship for the charity and Sarah concluded: “It’s a great day out for the family and a fantastic way to keep fit, have fun and raise vital funds for Caudwell Children, which will allow us to support even more disabled children throughout the region.”
