Isabel from Radstock, near Bath, will experience the full glare of the media spotlight tomorrow when she attends one of the most prestigious fundraising events in the UK.

The five-year-old, who has spinal muscular atrophy, a condition that has left her unable to walk, will be a special guest at Caudwell Children’s annual Butterfly Ball, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair, London, on Thursday 13th June, 2019.

Caudwell Children is one of the leading children’s charities in the UK.

Sir Bruce Forsyth, Rod Stewart, Simon Cowell, Joan Collins, and Sarah, Duchess of York, have been among the 800 guests at previous events and last year’s glamorous fundraiser raised over £1.5million for the charity.

This year’s Ball, hosted by long-standing Caudwell Children ambassador Peter Andre, will culminate in live performances by Chaka Khan, the ten-time GRAMMY Award winning singer and songwriter, and Leona Lewis, the British singing sensation and winner of The X Factor who has sold over 20 million records worldwide.

Due to her condition Isabel is a permanent wheelchair user and in 2017 she needed a new powerchair. Unfortunately, the wheelchair that was best suited to her needs cost an eye watering £10,730!

Her parents, Iain and Karen, were resigned to being unable to buy their daughter the specialist piece of equipment but fortunately a friend told them about Caudwell Children.

Thanks to dedicated fundraising support from the charity Isabel was able to get the powerchair that she needed and deserved.

Isabel is one of six lucky beneficiaries of the charity who have been invited to the Ball and Iain says she’s extremely excited about attending the event. As he explained: “She can’t wait to go and it’s going to be a real eye-opener for her.

“She’ a bright little girl and she’s seen bits and pieces of Leona Lewis on television so she’s really looking forward meeting her at a private meet and greet before she performs.

“She loves to get dressed up and she’s been out with her mum for a new dress, which is nice and sparkly!”

Trudi Beswick, Chief Executive of Caudwell Children, says that she’s delighted that Isabel will be attending this year’s Butterfly Ball. As she explained: “Life can be challenging for many of the children that we support so I’m really pleased that Isabel is coming to the Butterfly Ball.

“She loves anything to do with Princess so she’ll enjoy being treated like one on the night and I’m sure that she will be happy posing and chatting on the ‘Red Carpet’ with stars from the world of music, sport, film and television. It’s going to be a great night for her.”

Proceeds from the event will be used to transform the lives of disabled children living in the UK through a range of services. Since 2000 the charity has provided over £45 million worth of support to over 40,000 children with over 652 conditions.
