Staffordshire man proves he’s a cut above when it comes to fundraising
Russell Monaghan, from Burslem in Staffordshire, showed that he’s a cut above the rest last week when he completed a fundraising head shave.
“Through the charity partnership I’ve found out how Caudwell Children provide invaluable support to disabled children,” said Russell. “I have two grown up children of my own and I know how important their health is to me so I felt compelled to fundraise for the charity. Having a head shave was a simple, quick and relaxing way to raise funds. There was no way I could have completed a marathon, or anything like that, so this was the easy option! And I’m delighted to announce that with the support of my colleagues, and members of the public who have sponsored me in the branch, I’ve raised over £300.”
Gavin Heath, Manager of the Howarth Timber branch where Russell works, witnessed the head shave which took place at Water Margin Hairdressers, Hassell Street, in the town.
He said he had nothing but admiration for Russell’s fundraising efforts. As he explained: “It’s such a commendable thing to do. The cash that he’s raised will help Caudwell Children to provide wheelchairs, specialist equipment, therapies and treatments to disabled children across Staffordshire. Russell’s now got a week off on holiday so if the weather remains as hot as it’s been over the last few days, he’ll have to remember get the factor 50 sun cream on his head.”
Trudi Beswick, Chief Executive of Caudwell Children, was delighted by Russell’s close shave. She said: “Howarth Timber raise vital funds for the charity through golf days, bike rides, mountain climbs and other sporting events, but this is the first time one of their team has fundraised for us in this way. We can’t thank Russell enough, he’s a real hairo!”
