Stoke-on-Trent taxi firm Intercity Private Hire, has been named as the headline sponsor for Stoke-on-Trent’s annual Colour Runner event.

The 2km or 5km family fun run, now in its fifth year, is organised by Caudwell Children, one of the UK’s leading children’s charities.

Described by the charity as ‘the most colourful sporting event in the region’ this year’s Colour Runner will take place in Central Forest Park, Sneyd Green, in Hanley, on Saturday 11th May, 2019.

The event sees participants blasted with powder paint as they make their way around the course leaving them covered from head to toe in a rainbow of colours.

Malcolm Beardsmore, Director at Intercity private Hire, is delighted to be sponsoring the event. As he explained: “We’ve sponsored a number of Caudwell Children’s events that have taken place in the city.

“Colour Runner is a fantastic challenge that raises vital funds for disabled children across Staffordshire.

“Obviously there is a cost in staging the event as each adult who runs receives a free T-Shirt whilst children who enter get a free pair of sunglasses and everyone who crosses the finish line will be presented with a fantastic medal to treasure.

“Our sponsorship ensures that as much money as possible, from registration and fundraising, goes to the children that the charity supports.”

Kate Sherwin, from Caudwell Children, is delighted by Intercity’s support. She said: “It’s fantastic that Intercity have taken our headline sponsorship package and it will maximise our fundraising at the event.

“Their support reduces the running costs which allows us to boost the charity coffers, we can’t thank them enough.”

Colour Runner is a non-competitive event that has captured the imagination of the community.

Runners are being given a fantastic incentive to register for this year’s Colour Runner event as those who raise the minimum fundraising target of £50 will be entered into a prize draw to win a seven night Eurocamp Holiday, for two adults and up to four children, worth up to £1,000!

The prize also includes return ferry crossings from Dover to Calais, and to be in with a chance of winning participants must have returned their sponsorship to the charity by 31st May, 2019.

“This is an awesome prize as the lucky winner will have over 190 European locations to choose from, including beach and city breaks,” said Kate, challenge and events coordinator at Caudwell Children. “There are also a selection of beautiful mountain and lakeside locations on offer and there are loads of activities and entertainment available on each camp.”

Many of the sites include large pool complexes and free kids clubs, along with stunning static holiday homes. As Kate explained: “You can choose from two or three bedroom luxury holiday homes.

“Each one has open plan living and kitchen areas, with comfortable corner sofas, a contemporary kitchen equipped with oven, grill, gas hob, microwave and fridge-freezer.

“Depending on your choice and location your accommodation could also include a part-covered decked terrace, air conditioning, mosquito nets and blackout blinds.”

Registration on the day will be from 9:00am with the 2km run starting at 10:00am, closely followed by the 5km run which will set off at 10:30am. Each race will be preceded by a warm up session.

“Those who take part in Colour Runner love it and we receive so much positive feedback about the run,” enthused Kate. “We guarantee multi-coloured fun from the crack of the starting pistol to the celebrations at the finishing line.”

The money raised from the event will help the charity to deliver a range of specialist equipment, treatments and therapies to disabled children across the region.

Entry to the 5km event is £22 for adults and £15 for children (aged 14 and under). Entry to the 2km run is £15 for adults and £9 for children. Children can run unaccompanied from the age of 15, whilst children 13 and under must run with a responsible adult.

Participants can register at the event on the day.
