Caudwell Children launches Change-Tok, an inclusivity project

Caudwell Children, a national charity that supports disabled and autistic children launched Change-Tok on 8th March 2024, which aims to shed light on various accessibility challenges for people with physical disabilities and autism in different environments, including public spaces, recreational areas, and transportation.

A new Change-Tok video will be released each week and can be viewed on the charity’s TikTok channel focusing on raising awareness of the importance of inclusivity and accessibility, encouraging people to be mindful of social inclusion and the impact it has on the lives of people with a disability.

Dylan’s journey with Change-Tok

Dylan, aged 21 is a full-time wheelchair user and came up with the idea for Change-Tok while working with Caudwell Children to complete his Marketing Assistant apprenticeship. He is also a previous beneficiary of the charity.

Dylan said “The mission behind ‘Change-Tok’ is to bring to light issues that impact people with disabilities, this could be any sort of disability, I just want to make sure those people who need their voices heard, are actually listened to.

“I’m a fulltime wheelchair user, some may even say ‘wheelchair bound’, but I personally disagree with the term ‘bound’ as it suggests that my wheelchair restricts me. It doesn’t. It actually does the opposite; it allows me to live my life as independently as possible. As I have grown up relying on my wheelchair, I’ve found that the thing that restricts me, is actually living in a society that has a lack of thought around disabled access and inclusivity.”

Change-Tok is just one initiative, in Caudwell Children’s new platform “Join The Change” where they want to change society’s perceptions around disability, creating a world where disabled and autistic children have the choice, opportunity, dignity and understanding they deserve.”
