Meet Amaya

Amaya aged 9, finds it difficult to communicate with the world around her but is extremely passionate about the environment. Last year Amaya created a book about saving sea animals and a percentage of all sales were donated to Sealife. She used her support dog Boo in her story, which helps her to communicate with the world about the importance of protecting the planet.

Amaya has now written and illustrated her second book and for every book sold, 10% will be donated to Caudwell Children.

Collette, Amaya’s mum explains Amaya’s journey with Caudwell Children and what led her to create two amazing stories.

How has Caudwell Children supported Amaya and your family?

Caudwell Children has supported my family by providing Amaya with an Autism Assessment where she received an autism diagnosis, meaning I can now get her the help she needs. Caudwell Children have also helped us by providing us with an Autism Sensory Pack and sensory equipment for our home. These have helped Amaya, so now she can self-regulate.
Have you noticed any positive changes to Amaya’s well-being since receiving help from Caudwell Children?
Since receiving help from Caudwell Children, we’ve noticed a difference in Amaya. She understands her autism more and the sensory equipment has helped her to regulate and express her feelings.

Would you recommend Caudwell Children’s services to other families?

We would definitely recommend Caudwell Children to other families, and because of the excellent experience we had, we’ve already recommended Caudwell Children to other parents who are struggling to get their child an autism diagnosis.

What inspired Amaya’s passion for the environment?

Amaya was first inspired for her love of the environment by watching a movie called “Dolphin Tale”. The movie is about a dolphin that gets a prosthetic tale as theirs was damaged by a fishing line. This started her passion into marine life. When we went on holiday to Hunstanton, Amaya saw a seal that has been injured from rubbish being left on the beach, and from then on, she wanted to show the world what rubbish can do and how people can upcycle items.

Why did Amaya decide to create books to share her passion with others?

Amaya wanted to make a book because she finds it difficult to communicate with the world around her. Through her writing she is able to tell people how she feels about the environment and explain to other people how they can help.

Why did Amaya decide to donate 10% of book sales to Caudwell Children?

Amaya decided to donate 10% of her profit from each book to Caudwell Children because they have done a lot to support her, she wanted to help other children.

Does Amaya have plans to create any more books, with profits going to other charities?

Amaya has already written a book called “The Adventures of Boo: Save the Sea Animals” which she donated 10% of the profit to Sealife. She now has plans to do more books and each book she wants to give to a different charity. We are just so proud of her, at just 9 years old to have written two books and have them published, giving money to charities is a huge achievement.
