Lucus aged 13, is autistic and has PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance).
Julie, Lucus’ mum applied to Caudwell Children for a Get Sensory Pack to help him with his sensory processing.
When the pack arrived, the whole family were excited, including Eddie the dog, they all opened the pack together. As they explored the pack, this gave Lucus’ family valuable talking time and gave them many learning opportunities. By involving Eddie, Lucas played with him and further explored the sensory items in the pack, discovering that the fibre optic light was his favourite. Lucas likes the feel of the light and has it on when he goes to bed.
Eddie works with Julie as a volunteer for PetsAsTherapy and when Lucus talked to Eddie, further discussions around sensory input were had, which helped Lucas to realise that sensory toys are for everyone and for all ages not just children.
