Caudwell Children in Partnership with B&Q Launches The Nature Patch

At Caudwell Children, we are passionate about creating spaces that reflect the needs of the children and families we support, spaces that are inclusive, accessible, and inspiring. That’s why we’re thrilled to officially unveil our latest initiative, The Nature Patch.

The Nature Patch is a fully accessible allotment designed specifically for disabled and neurodivergent children and young people. This wonderful new outdoor space was made possible through a special partnership with leading home improvement retailer B&Q, who generously donated all materials and resources to bring this vision to life.

A Place to Grow, Learn and Connect with Nature

More than just an allotment, The Nature Patch has been designed with accessibility, wellbeing, and learning at its heart. With wheelchair-friendly raised planters, smooth paving for easy mobility, and sensory-friendly play areas, every detail has been thoughtfully planned to ensure children and young people of all abilities can enjoy nature on their own terms.

Whether planting vegetables, learning about flowers, or getting hands-on experience with garden maintenance, our beneficiaries now have the opportunity to engage with the outdoors in a safe and nurturing environment.

“We’re thrilled to open The Nature Patch,” said Tom Sherratt, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Caudwell Children. “The allotment is a project we’ve been wanting to do for a long time. It’s an accessible space that all of our families and beneficiaries can explore and enjoy, helping with their wellbeing and learning.”

B&Q Partnership

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support from B&Q. From donating all the materials to volunteering their time, B&Q went above and beyond to help transform our outdoor spaces.

Simon Cowey, Acting Director of Retail Operations at B&Q said: “It was great to be able to support Caudwell Children’s Charity recently in transforming its outdoor spaces into two new allotment areas and a sensory play space which have been designed to be a vital area for the young people that use them. The team from our head office were really proud to offer their time, skills, B&Q products, and service partners to support the charity to make the space accessible, vibrant and useful, which will make a positive difference.”

Now Open to Explore

The Nature Patch is now open to all children and families accessing services at the Caudwell International Children’s Centre. We are incredibly proud to offer this inclusive outdoor experience, and we can’t wait to see how it inspires the next generation of gardeners, explorers, and nature lovers.
