We’re thrilled to introduce our fabulous Head Judge for Caudwell Children’s Big Birthday Bake – the brilliant Heather from The Cart! With a passion for cakes and a heart full of kindness, Heather is ready to sprinkle her baking wisdom across the competition.
What inspired you to get into baking?
I’ve loved baking since my high school days – many moons ago! I even earned a qualification in cookery, which really sparked my love for creating delicious treats.
What do you love most about baking?
I’ve always enjoyed making cakes, and have always loved baking for my family and friends. I was very proud of myself for getting first place at the Nantwich Show in 2019 for my Victoria Sponge!
Do you have a favourite cake to bake?
Oh, it has to be chocolate cake. I’m a true chocoholic! It’s rich, comforting, and always a crowd-pleaser.
What’s your top tip for home bakers?
My number one tip for home baking is to practise the basic sponge, you can add any flavour and make a Victoria sponge or a cupcake!
What’s your must-have baking tool?
My stand mixer! It’s an absolute game changer for whipping up light, airy sponges and saving time.
Why did you choose to be part of Caudwell Children’s Big Birthday Bake?
I’m so excited to be judging the competition, it’s exciting to see the children’s ideas, to get the children involved, to pass on the love of baking and learning new skills is invaluable!
What do you think of the work Caudwell Children does?
I’ve enjoyed supporting Caudwell Children and look forward to continuing to do so, it’s an amazing family. To see first-hand what the charity does has been an amazing learning curve.
