Caudwell Children’s ‘Snapshot of Life’ survey set out to capture the real-life experiences of families with disabled and neurodivergent children across the UK. A total of 164 participants took part, with parents and carers sharing their personal stories, challenges, and needs to help Caudwell Children gain a deeper understanding and provide more effective support.
Key Findings
The ‘Snapshot of Life’ survey reveals significant challenges faced by families of disabled and neurodivergent children in the UK. Participants expressed deep concerns about limited access to quality education, insufficient healthcare support, barriers to employment, and a lack of societal understanding. With 92% of respondents feeling that the public does not understand neurodivergence or disability, and a staggering 88% saying statutory healthcare does not adequately support them, it is clear that families feel isolated and misunderstood.
How We’re Responding
These findings prove how essential the work of charities like Caudwell Children is. As public services struggle to meet growing demand, our role in providing practical, emotional, and tailored support becomes even more critical. By listening to families, we can continue to adapt our services to meet real-world needs, building a more inclusive society, one family at a time.
One of the most significant gaps identified in the survey is the lack of support for neurodivergent individuals transitioning into work, with 94% saying they were concerned about their child’s future employment. In response, we’re continuing to develop our Shaping Futures programme, designed for neurodivergent young people aged 16 to 25. This programme equips young people with essential life and employment skills, offering support with getting a job, access to work experience, and opportunities in volunteering.
