Summer of Sport – Meet Sophia

The summer is heating up, and so is our Summer of Sport campaign. We’re shining a spotlight on incredible young people breaking boundaries through sport and we’re delighted to introduce you to Sophia!

At just 13 years old, Sophia is a force to be reckoned with on the international judo stage. Diagnosed with autism in 2023 through Caudwell Children, Sophia has gone from strength to strength, competing in a sport she loves.

In the past year alone, she has taken part in three European Judo Union Get Together competitions, winning an impressive Silver and three Gold medals. Most recently, she competed in the Danny King Memorial Teams Event, where her team took home Gold, a particularly proud moment as she was up against mainstream judokas

“Judo has helped Sophia’s confidence and she’s made life-long friends. Sophia is even looking into becoming a club referee, as she loves the rules.” Janine – Sophia’s Mum

This August, Sophia’s journey continues as she heads to the British and VI Judo Competition in Cardiff. She’s also aiming to represent her club and country at upcoming events in Hungary, Poland, and Paris, proving that with the right support, there’s no limit to what autistic children and young people can achieve.

Sophia trains every eight weeks at the national adaptive training centre in Walsall, where she continues to sharpen her skills, build her confidence, and chase her ambitions.
