Following the success of last year’s Summer of Sport campaign, we are delighted to celebrate all things sport for a second year running. To kick things off, we are excited to introduce you to Tilly!
Tilly aged 8, is autistic and has Tourette’s. She finds some social situations challenging and has difficulties with her confidence.
After researching ways to help Tilly reduce her anxiety and build her confidence, Tilly’s parents discovered that learning Karate can sometimes help children with SEN needs gain confidence and self-awareness. At just five years old, Tilly started Karate lessons and hasn’t looked back since.
Tilly has risen up the ranks slowly and has reached 3rd Kyu (Brown Belt) which is two belts away from black. In 2024 Tilly was chosen to represent Great Britian at the WKC Championships in Sheffield where she won bronze in Kumite (Fighting), silver in Kata (formation) and Gold in the team Kumite. Till also has regional and national titles.
“Tilly has struggled, it’s not been easy and she’s had to practice harder than ever. There have been tears and meltdowns but she’s pushed through and we could not be prouder of her.” – Tilly’s Parents.
